Who We Are
Purpose: The Michigan State Triathlon Club is a place where people can come together to learn about and compete in the sport of Triathlon. Triathlons involve the disciplines of swimming, cycling, and running. The club also strives to be an active member of East Lansing and surrounding communities through volunteering and hosting events. This club encourages its members to be the best they can be, and provide a team-like atmosphere.
Eligibility: Only current MSU students may be members of the club. Non-MSU students (including MSU faculty and staff, alumni, etc.) may participate in organization activities, however. The club does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, gender, disability status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or weight. Only MSU students may be officers and/or voting members. A team member remains in good standing by practicing regularly, being a positive part of the team and obeying club rules.
Dues: Any interested person may become a member by contacting an officer to have their name placed on the roster. Annual club dues must be paid every year after the first few weeks of practice. This is to help us be able to pay for trips, coaching, and lots of fun things!
Other notes: While you do not need to have ever done a triathlon before (many of us had not before joining), it is recommended that you have some basic knowledge of swimming. You do not need to have been a member of a swim team, club, or any sort of competitive swim in the past, but a basic understanding of how to swim is necessary. Many of our current members have come from a background of one or two of the three disciplines, but as long as you are willing to learn and try new things, you will be just fine! We have a very supportive and encouraging team atmosphere, so do not be afraid to learn something new with us. All practices and club activities are optional, but highly recommended. Attendance will be taken into account for nationals to ensure the safety and ability of competing at an olympic distance.
It is also worth mentioning that the cost of the equipment for doing three sports can be a lot, but we are all here to help each other. Whether this is looking for the best bike deals, sharing websites with good prices, or even selling used items for lower prices to each other, we try our best to not let the burden be too much.
