What makes up a Triathlon?
-
The swim is the first leg of the triathlon, and the distance varies depending on the type of triathlon you are competing in! This is usually swam front stroke/freestyle, but it can be swam any style. If the water is too cold, make sure you have a wetsuit.
-
You made it through the swim and have transitioned into biking! The biking distance also varies with each race, and is usually competed on a triathlon bike. The draft legal is competed with only a road bike. Make sure you fuel up and wear a helmet!
-
Finally, the last leg of the race! This distance also varies per event. The run is a tough end to the race, but with training and nutrition it can really make a difference overall! Running shoes are your new best friend.
-
This is normally the shortest triathlon our members compete in, it consists of a 750m swim, 20km bike, and a 5k run. This is half of an olympic race! Drafting behind another bike is not allowed in this race.
-
This is the same distance as the sprint triathlon, but with different rules. Drafting is allowed! Instead of a big race it’s laps of the same smaller course. You can get lapped out if the first person goes around a lap and passes the last person. Only road bikes are allowed.
-
This is the big one for our club! Collegiate nationals is an olympic distance. 1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run! Drafting behind another bike is not allowed!
